What We Do

at ASH

Group Discussion

During meetings, we learn about important topics such as the impact that factors, such as poverty, have on incarceration. We also learn about the Prison Industrial Complex, lack of resources in detention, and recovery/rehabilitative services around the New Orleans community. We discuss these topics and ways that we can make a change in the US.

Meeting With Speakers

The H4J Club meets with speakers on field trips and in meetings. We met with an employee of the Louisiana Supreme Court to learn about the Rare Book Room of the Law Library. In the future, we hope to speak to justice workers and activists in the community.

Educational Field Trips

In the 2022-23 school year, the Hearts for Justice Club attended a field trip to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeal and the Louisiana Supreme Court. We were able to learn about the judicial process and the history of Louisiana justice. In the future, we plan to tour the Juvenile Court and Judge Lobrano's CARE Center.

During meetings, we watched movies and documentaries relating to justice and injustices within the system. This included "Just Mercy," "No Place For Kids," videos from "A Conversation About Race," and videos about the "CircleWay Process."
